FAMILY and FRIENDS I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU! I LOVE YOU!
Where did the last week go!?! Monday was spent at the San Diego Zoo as I briefly mentioned last week. It was soo fun! I think it was my first time to a real zoo like that- they even had giraffe's and elephants! Those were my favorite. Ohh oh and the gorillas too, it was all just so COOL! I have a confession... we both a year long pass. BUT before anyone freaks out and wonder where my head is, it makes sense. Check this out- the one day pass was $34- yikes!! And the dual membership (you just have to have the same address... score for the missionaries! Since all of our address is the mission office! Ha. We even told them that, but they still had absolutely no problem with it! We explained who we were, and told them everything and well, yeah!) anyways, the dual membership is $89, so split that and it was roughly $44 each. So see, we can go as many times as we want with only having spend $10 more.... now we just have to make sure to go! I'm definitely planning on it though, it was just that awesome.
Ok so on to the big news about the Mormon Battalion. We started training on Tuesday, but only for a few hours. We we fitted into our costumes Wednesday and on Thursday we had our first visitors! They were the families of the contractors here, so "there wasn't any pressure". Whatever, thats what they said but there so was! Then on Friday we were giving tours all day to Stake presidencies, Elder Hinckley (President Hinckley's brother! He looks and sounds EXACTLY like him, I shut my eyes and just listened to him talk :) I loved it), we also gave tours that night to the Mission Presidency of Carlsbad mission, our Mission Presidency, the area seventy Elder Anderson, the Missionary training department from Salt Lake, and lots more. Pretty much every high honcho person in the church that you can think of! Talk about PRESSURE! It was a "special reception for invited guests only". But it was a good night! Then on Saturday the big reopening was SLAMMED! We had roughly 2500 people come through! I counted the number in our tours that Sister Ploeger and I gave personally... they were all between 27-36 (keep in mind, the place is designed for giving tours to only 15 at a time!) It was very crowded, very busy, very hectic, and VERY FUN! Holy cow and our dresses go to our ankles, to our neckline, and to our wrists... very warm dresses. I was sweating like a pig! But sheesh was it FUN! We worked yesterday too and it wasn't nearly as busy, but we were still having pretty consistant groups come through!
With having to spend all this time at the Historic Site, we have little time for proselyting :( But I'm sure as the time goes on we'll be able to find a good balance. I just can't believe that the time is already here for it to be opened! The presentation is so cool, you guys HAVE to come! You'll love it. Cough cough.. some even said it's better than disney world... just saying, you know, think about it. The schedule is kind of crazy, we work either from 9-3 or 3-9 depending on what they schedule us for! I love it. Besides loving the fact that it's such a fun and spiritual (if you want it to me), I just LOVE being around the other sisters!
So the rain has stopped- thank goodness! It's back to sunshine :D So I've been thinking what it will be like to go back to snow... and there's really only two options. Either I'll be way stoked about it, or absolutely hate it. Uhh I guess we'll see! For now, I'm loving the sun!
Alright well I have to get going. I love you all and I hope you're doing well! I think of you often and pray about you even more! I'm so thrilled to have this calling in the Mormon Battalion. I'm absolutely amazed at the faith these soldiers had to press forward on this 2,000 mile journey with little food & water and scorching weather throughout the desert. It's incredible to witness the faith they had and how Heavenly Father really does answer our prayers and come through for us. Although we might not be asked to leave our families and friends like they were, we're still faced with hard decisions. And I know that if we really come unto God and ask with faith, willing submitting our will to his, then he will show us the way. And although we might not make as big of a difference like they did in settling San Diego... we truly do make a difference in the world in our own ways. I hope that you all strive to reach your potential as future heirs of Gods kingdom. You all are AMAZING. I love you so much!
I hope you have the best day ever... and if it doesnt look like it's going to be, do something so that it will be a day to remember forever.
Love,
Sister Miller
